Ontario and British Columbia Invite Candidates for Provincial Nomination

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Draws Update

Candidates are invited to submit for nomination as part of the Provincial Nominee Programme (PNP) selection process in Ontario and British Columbia. Except for Nunavut and Quebec, the majority of Canadian provinces and territories use PNPs to choose immigrants who can quickly enter the workforce and fill labour shortages.

Once a province selects a candidate it provides them with an advantage when seeking residency status through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Variations in PNP Operations

PNPs vary in their operations. For example, Alberta has recently implemented criteria, for pathways; the Alberta Opportunity Stream, the Rural Renewal Stream and the Accelerated Tech Pathway. Each month the province establishes application deadlines to improve processing efficiency.

As of July 9, Alberta met its application targets for the Rural Renewal Stream (160 applications) and the Tourism and Hospitality Stream (143 applications). By July 11, the province also achieved its target for the Alberta Opportunity Stream with 444 applications.

Another draw occurred on July 11 for the Express Entry; Skilled Trades Stream, where 1,277 candidates with scores between 408 and 435 were invited. When a candidate, in the Express Entry system, gets nominated by a province they receive 600 points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) boosting their likelihood of getting an invitation to apply from IRCC in the Express Entry selection round.
