Former President Donald Trump’s Stance on Immigration
Donald Trump, the former US president and current Republican presidential nominee, has pledged to address illegal immigration while supporting legal entry into the country. During his speech at the Republican National Convention, where he accepted his nomination for the upcoming November 5th general elections, Trump emphasized the importance of legal immigration processes that benefit communities like Indian Americans who often enter through H-1B visas.
Commitment to Strengthen Border Security
Trump declared his intention to end what he calls the illegal immigration crisis by closing the border and completing the wall—a project he started during his previous term. “I will end the illegal immigration crisis by closing our border and finishing the wall, most of which I’ve already built,” he told enthusiastic supporters. Trump highlighted that under his administration, those who entered the country illegally were apprehended and deported swiftly.
He criticized the current administration for reversing his border security measures. “The current administration terminated every single one of those great Trump policies that I put in place to seal the border,” he said. Trump’s focus remains on legal entry, stressing how unfair it is for those who have waited years to immigrate legally to see others enter illegally.
Impact on Jobs and Communities
Trump argued that illegal immigration has led to numerous issues, including crime, corruption, and inflation. “Illegal immigration,” he noted, “has resulted in crime, corruption, and inflation. Today, our cities are flooded with illegal aliens.” He emphasized how American citizens are being pushed out of the labor force by undocumented workers. According to Trump, this situation disproportionately affects Black and Hispanic communities as well as union members.
“107 percent of those jobs are taken by illegal aliens,” Trump claimed. He remarked that millions of people entering illegally are hurting job prospects for minority populations and unions.
Accusations of a Border Crisis
Describing it as a crisis at the southern border, Trump stated: “It’s a massive invasion at our southern border that has spread misery, crime, poverty, disease, and destruction to communities all across our land.” He portrayed this situation as an unprecedented international crisis that has left many in disbelief.
