NZ Offers Open Work Visa for Covid-Hit Students. The covid 19 had a devastating effect across the globe. From industries to students, none spared. The New Zealand government has recently announced a decision in the favour of students affected by the covid outbreak. The government is trying its best to brighten the future of students who had their opportunities diminished to Covid. The New Zealand government has recently announced that an open work visa will be given to offshore students impacted by Covid.

The decision was made to assist the students who could not get a job post their studies due to pandemic restrictions. The government now allows them to apply for a post-work visa and come to New Zealand to explore job opportunities.

This will allow eligible people to be able to enter New Zealand between 30 March and 29 September 2023. The visa will allow them to stay for the next 12 months since their entry.

A New Zealand work visa is a permit that allows individuals to work in New Zealand for a specified period. Under this visa, offshore students will now be able to work and earn a living in New Zealand. It will provide them stability and the much need boost to shape their career post studies.
After the studies, work experience is a must for overall professional development. Had it were not for the open work visa granted to the offshore students, they would have found themselves exempted from this due to covid. Nonetheless, they will now have their much-deserved opportunity.

Eligibility.

To be eligible under this program. The student must qualify for a New Zealand institution.

If you held a PSWV (post-study work visa)

You meet the criteria if you held a PSWV on 19 March 2020 and you:

  • were not in New Zealand on 19 March 2020
  • are not currently in New Zealand
  • do not hold another valid New Zealand visa.
If you were granted a PSWV

You meet the criteria if you were granted a PSWV between 19 March 2020 and 10 August 2020 (inclusive) and you:

  • were outside New Zealand
  • are not currently in New Zealand
  • do not hold another valid New Zealand visa.
