What is the NZeTA Visa?
The NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authorization) is an online visa that allows travelers to enter New Zealand for tourism, business, or transit purposes. It was introduced in 2019 to facilitate smooth entry to New Zealand for foreigners. With this visa, visitors can stay in New Zealand for up to three months in six month period.
Who Needs the NZeTA Visa?
The NZeTA applies to only those people coming from a visa waiver country. The visa waiver countries allow citizens or nationals of the participating countries to visit and stay for up to 90 days without obtaining a visa. If you are planning a holiday or business trip in New Zealand you either need a visitor visa or an NZeTA visa. You would need a visitor visa if you are coming from a country that is not a visa waiver country. The NZeTA is different from a regular visitor visa and acts as a substitute for individuals from visa-waiver countries.
Although you will need a visitor visa if you have a criminal history or you need to stay in New Zealand for more than 3 months, the time cap for UK citizens is 6 months. You also need to have a visitor visa if you have a medical condition that can affect New Zealand citizens or could be costly to the New Zealand government.
Australian citizens do not require an NZeTA. You also need to have an NZeTA if you are arriving in New Zealand via a cruise ship and you do not have a visitor visa.
How to Apply?
You can apply from the official New Zealand immigration website or the official mobile app. Once you select the NZeTA visa you need to give details like passport information, the purpose of the visit, duration of stay, etc. After filling out the required information you need to pay the visa fee. It’s NZ$23 on the website and NZ$17 on the official app. You need to wait for a little. The best thing about this visa is that you get them in only 72 hours most of the time.
