If you hold an Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), there are specific criteria you must meet to support visas for your partner or dependent child.
Types of Supportable Visas With an AEWV, you may be able to support:
- A work visa for your partner
- A visitor visa for your partner or children
- A student visa for your children
Key Factors Affecting Visa Support
The type of visa you can support depends on several factors:
- Whether your job is on the Green List and if you meet the Green List requirements
- Your income level
- The Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) skill level of your occupation
If you supported a visa for your family before 26 June 2024, ANZSCO skill level requirements are not applicable. Refer to the section “If you supported your family to apply for a visa before 26 June 2024” for detailed information on the types of visas you can support.
Supporting a Work Visa for Your Partner
Types of Work Visas
If eligible, you can support one of the following work visas for your partner:
- Open Work Visa: This allows your partner to work for any employer with no pay requirements.
- Work Visa with Conditions: Requires your partner to meet specified employment terms.
Conditions Based on Job and Income
Job on the Green List
If your role is listed on the Green List and you meet the role-specific requirements, you can support:
- A Partner of a Worker Work Visa with open work conditions
- A Partner of a Worker Visitor Visa
- A Dependent Child Student Visa
- A Child of Worker Visitor Visa
Earning at Least NZD$59.32 per Hour
If you earn at least twice the February 2023 median wage (NZD$29.66 per hour):
- You can support all visa types listed under the Green List category.
Job in the Transport Sector Agreement
For those in jobs under the transport sector agreement meeting role requirements:
- If earning less than NZD$29.66 per hour, you can support a Partner of a Worker Visitor Visa.
- With an annual income of at least NZD$43,322.76, you can support:
- A Dependent Child Student Visa
- A Child of Worker Visitor Visa
- Earning at least NZD$29.66 per hour also allows support for a Partner of a Worker Work Visa with work conditions.
Visa Support for Family Members in the Care Workforce Sector
If your position falls under the care workforce sector agreement, you may be eligible to support a visa for your family members, contingent on meeting the designated role and income requirements.
ANZSCO Skill Level 1, 2, or 3
If your hourly wage is less than NZD$29.66, you can sponsor:
- Partner of a Worker Visitor Visa
- Dependent Child Student Visa
- Child of Worker Visitor Visa
If you earn at least NZD$29.66 an hour, you can additionally support a Partner of a Worker Work Visa with work conditions.
ANZSCO Skill Level 4 or 5
If your hourly rate is at least NZD$28.25, you can sponsor:
- Partner of a Worker Visitor Visa
- Dependent Child Student Visa
- Child of Worker Visitor Visa
Earning below NZD$28.25 an hour disqualifies you from supporting any family member’s visa.
For those earning at least NZD$29.66 an hour, there is also the possibility to support a Partner of a Worker Work Visa with conditions.
Specific Scenarios
For roles classified under ANZSCO skill level 1, 2, or 3, earning between NZD$29.66 an hour and NZD$59.31 an hour. You are eligible to support multiple visas including:
- Partner of a Worker Work Visa with work conditions
- Partner of a Worker Visitor Visa
- Dependent Child Student Visa
- Child of Worker Visitor Visa
If earning less than NZD$29.66 an hour. You may be able to sponsor only a Partner of a Worker Visitor Visa.
To support any visa for your dependent child, an annual income of at least NZD$43,322.76 is required.
Skill Levels and Eligibility
Most individuals in ANZSCO skill levels 4 or 5 are typically ineligible to support family visas unless they satisfy one of these conditions:
- Earn at least NZD$47.41 an hour.
- Work in a role listed on the Green List and meet that role’s requirements.
- Occupy a position on the transport or care workforce sector agreement and comply with its residence criteria.
- Have previously supported family visas before June 26, 2024.
The occupation specified on your visa determines your skill level. Should your job title or qualifications advance to a higher skill level (e.g., from Cook (skill level 4) to Chef (skill level 2)), it is necessary to apply for a Job Change on your visa before sponsoring a family member’s visa.
