It’s no wonder that many people across the globe want to move and settle in New Zealand to live with their families.

Although moving with your family to a new country is hard for many obvious reasons, it is certainly not impossible. Many countries have different visa programs that enable the resident to have their family members live with them in a new country. Certainly, these processes take time, and one needs to be patient. But no doubt the wait is worth it when you get your loved ones intact with you again.

A New Zealand parent-resident visa makes it possible to live with your family in New Zealand. If you are a parent of a New Zealand citizen or resident, you may be eligible to live in New Zealand via the parent-resident visa program.

What is a Parent resident visa?

A Parent Resident Visa is a type of visa that allows parents of New Zealand citizens or residents to live in New Zealand for two years and potentially apply for permanent residency in the future. One has to fulfill certain conditions to be eligible for payment residency under this program.

Eligibility.
  • To apply for a parent resident visa, you must have an adult child with New Zealand citizenship or residency.
  • The child shall act as a sponsor to immigrating parents.
  • You are not eligible to apply for this visa if you have dependent children residing in New Zealand.
  • The applicant must have a certain English proficiency level acceptable to the government.
  • One must meet New Zealand’s health and character requirements.

The applicant can also mention his or her partner. Provided the relationship is recognized by the New Zealand government.

The New Zealand government has set a minimum financial income to be eligible to sponsor a parent. The adult child must show income proof to the government. The income must be stable for at least two to three years. The minimum financial requirement will change for joint sponsors. It will increase with an additional parent.

If you are interested in a parent resident visa you will need to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). Your Expression of Interest will include personal information and information about your family, partner, and sponsor.

If you have a strong application, you will be shortlisted for the EOI pool. The government will go through your profile thoroughly. If they find your application viable then they will invite you to apply for a visa under the parent-resident visa program beginning your journey of living in New Zealand indefinitely.
